What is SEO: Beginner’s Guide & Why It’s So Important

If you are new to blogging or have been doing it for a while, you would know that SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a super important tool when it comes to writing a blog post. Of course this isn’t just for bloggers and can be for anyone is writing on a website, but it is something in the blogging world that everyone knows about. Search Engine Optimization is a lot less scary than it actually sounds. With so many people everyday who either run their own website or their own blog publishing their content, it can be hard to get noticed by others to visit your page. This is how SEO comes in to play.

According to Neil Patel’s website “WordPress users publish 2 million posts everyday. That comes out to 24 blog posts every second.” This is an outstanding number but that means it is also very competitive for those just starting out or those who want to get their content to reach hundreds, thousands, or millions of people. Trying to be relevant or even wanting to get noticed can be so hard which is why this blog post is going to teach you and give you all the information you need to know on how to start inputting SEO into your next post.

What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization is when you are writing content that is easier and faster for people to read to not only get them engaged, but gets your content and page ranked up higher on Google and Search Engines, hence the name “Search Engine.”

If you still don’t know what this means, basically it means if you’re writing a blog post about “How To Train a Dog” you are going to break up all the information you know on how to train a dog into this blog post. But instead of having huge chunks of paragraphs and complex words, you’re breaking it down, using great keywords so when people search it up on Google and your link comes up, they will click it.

This is not only completely free but is something that can change your writing and traffic game! Below is a SEO checklist which you could use for your own advantage and use for your own writing.

Why Is This Important For Bloggers and Content Writers?

Getting traffic, having exposure, and reaching more and more people everyday will not only help your blog grow, but can help increase your income depending on how you’re monetized. This is why your content and what you write about, including the format it is in, is a huge reason why SEO is so important.

Blogging and Content Writers are all based off of writing obviously, which is why when you can efficiently write in a way that will rank you higher on Google for people searching for certain topics, why would you not want to start learning about SEO?

A lot of monetization is based off of blog views, traffic, and how many ads you get. This is why increasing your monthly traffic with better SEO can significantly help your blog and it’s growth.

Get To Know Keywords

Why are keywords important? When people search for something on Google or any search engine, 9 times out of 10, they usually click the first 5 links that show up because you’d assume they have the correct information or the best content for what you’re looking for.

This is why your keywords and what you include in your writing is important to get people to click your links. It’s almost like a game if you like to look at it in a competitive way. Who has the better keywords and who can get the most clicks or higher ranking on search engines?

Where should keywords be placed on your post?

  • Headers of your post
  • Title of your post
  • Description of the post
  • The URL
  • Multiple times through the post

There are a lot of different plug ins and websites, some free and some paid, where you can find the best and most relevant popular keywords to help you optimize the most out of your post.

Overview of Everything

By the end of the post you should have noticed that SEO is a lot friendlier than most think. It’s like the one friend in school that you think looks super rude and mean, but once you get to know them, their the sweetest and nicest person.

Just think of SEO in that way and you’ll be great!

To summarize everything as discussed in this post, here is everything briefly:

  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is when you format your writing in a way to get Google to rank your page and posts higher allowing you to reach more traffic and a larger audience
  • This is so important for bloggers and content writers because the foundation of our work is literally writing and words, therefore the way you format it and how you write will make a huge difference in reaching more people.
  • Use keyword plug ins or do research on the most popular and relevant ones at the moment or about your post to get more people to click your page
  • Use great images, not blurry and good quality
  • Have big headers and include your keywords in them as well
