Hair care and the entire beauty world is an exciting up and coming industry with so many opportunities! Getting prepared for an interview and for the hiring process when it comes to this industry can sometimes be overwhelming.
We chatted with Cadence Melendez, a current digital marketing intern at the well known hair care brand, Morrocanoil. Read along for some questions that you have come across your own mind when it comes to interning at companies and how to stand out in the interview process.

- Tell our readers about yourself in a few words! Maybe a hobby you currently do, a show you’re watching, or anything you might say when you meet someone new!
- C: Hi, I am a recent BBA graduate from LIM College, I am 22 years old and live on the Jersey shore. I love fashion, creativity, and art. I love going out to eat and trying new places, if this would be considered a hobby!
- How did you land your role as Digital Marketing Intern at Moroccan Oil? What was the interview process like and how has your experience been so far?!
- C: A friend of mine who works at another beauty company sent me a video on TikTok that they were looking for a social media intern. She had a connection at Moroccanoil so I was able to submit my resume through her and did 2 interviews! Networking was a factor but I also have relevant experience from other marketing internships.
- What would you recommend that helps someone stand out in the hiring or interview process if they’re looking to land a role in the beauty industry?
- C: Definitely research the company or brand beforehand, and try to find something relevant to talk about during the interview so they can remember you. I would also recommend perfecting your resume to a T! Resume editing is always something I am doing.
- How do you stay up to date with trends in the beauty industry? What’s been your favorite trend so far!?
- C: So many trends going on right now, especially on TikTok. Obsessed with the strawberry look personally. Recently obsessed with Merit’s shadow campaign, referencing the ‘hit pan’ quote. Topicals also does amazing campaigns on redefining what good skin looks like, which is something really refreshing & relatable to see in the beauty industry.
- What is your biggest accomplishment that you’re proud of recently? It can be in your personal life, job or anything!
- C: Graduating college was a big accomplishment for me. I am a first-gen latina and always felt discouraged throughout my time in college that it just wasn’t meant for me and that this industry was too hard. But I’m proud that I kept going and succeeded in many internships and clubs.
