From a very young age, I remember my aunt would take my sister and I on frequent trips to the library, Barnes & Noble, and a local book store that was near her house. I would take my books everywhere with me whether it was on a plane while on the way to our vacation destination, at the park, or even restaurants while waiting for my food. This was something that was very natural for me and I specifically liked to indulge my time in books about crime or mysteries such as the A to Z Mysteries series or buying random ones from the book fairs held in my school.
As soon as I arrived at high school, that completely changed. I was given a lot more work than I used to have in middle school and it would take away any free time I had. When I would have spare moments to do anything that didn’t revolve around school or work, I would spend that time on my phone often and I am still guilty of doing that to this day. One of my new goals to start this school year is to get back on to my old reading habits and read one book at least every month. I am going to be starting college next month as a freshman and having a book in my hand while I am on my way commuting to school is something I’d like to start doing as well.
In this list, I will be giving you 10 summer reads ranging in different topics, even if you hate reading or would simply like to get into it. If you have any suggestions or have even read these yourself, feel free to comment under this post. Happy summer reading!

- Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
- Amazon Book Description: “Emily is about to take some risks and have the most unexpected summer ever. Before Sloane, Emily didn’t go to parties, she barely talked to guys, and she didn’t do anything crazy. Enter Sloane, social tornado and the best kind of best friend—someone who yanks you out of your shell. But right before what should have been an epic summer, Sloane just…disappears. There’s just a random to-do list with thirteen bizarre tasks that Emily would never try. But what if they can lead her to Sloane? Getting through Sloane’s list will mean a lot of firsts, and with a whole summer ahead of her—and with the unexpected help of the handsome Frank Porter—who knows what she’ll find.”

- The Way You Make Me Feel by Maureene Goo
- Amazon Book Description: “Clara Shin lives for pranks and disruption. When she takes one joke too far, her dad sentences her to a summer working on his food truck, the KoBra, alongside her uptight classmate Rose Carver. Not the carefree summer Clara had imagined. But maybe Rose isn’t so bad. Maybe the boy named Hamlet (yes, Hamlet) crushing on her is pretty cute. Maybe Clara actually feels invested in her dad’s business. What if taking this summer seriously means that Clara has to leave her old self behind?”

- All My Mother’s Lovers by Ilana Masad
- Good House Keeping Description: “After Maggie’s mom dies unexpectedly, she returns home to help with arrangements, and discovers five letters her mom left behind, all addressed to strange men. She sets off to find them and along the way, learns more about her parents’ love life than she bargained for. Come for the tear-jerking family scenes, stay for the twist all the way at the end.”

- The Guest List by Lucy Foley
- Good House Keeping Description: “Lucy Foley has done it again with this murder mystery set at a destination wedding off the coast of Ireland. You’ve got your high-flying bride and groom, your heavy-drinking groomsmen, your suspiciously heartfelt bride’s male buddy, and the bridesmaid who doesn’t seem as excited as she could be. Then, there’s the body. Cozy up with this whodunnit and watch the hours fly by.”

- Valentine by Elizabeth Wetmore
- Amazon Book Description: It’s February 1976, and Odessa, Texas, stands on the cusp of the next great oil boom. While the town’s men embrace the coming prosperity, its women intimately know and fear the violence that always seems to follow. Valentine is a haunting exploration of the intersections of violence and race, class and region in a story that plumbs the depths of darkness and fear, yet offers a window into beauty and hope.

- Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom
- Buzzfeed Book Description: “We’ve all had a teacher who made a big impact in our lives. This effortless read is a heart warming story of a man who reconnects with his old teacher and tries to learn some of life’s most difficult lessons from him, before their time runs out.”

- The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
- Buzzfeed Book Description: “The Alchemist is a story of Santiago, a shepherd boy who has a prophetic dream that sends him to the Egyptian desert in search of an alchemist who would lead him to a secret treasure.”

Nice list, Some of these i havent read yet. It seems like you enjoy contemporary fiction, and I must suggest you check out the author K.A. Tucker. She writes some nice contemporary romances . I have only read two so far – Ten Tiny Breathes and The Simple Wild, but I really enjoyed them. She is an indie author,so you can find her on Amazon, and I believe, Google books. If you don’t mind a lengthy read, you should also check out Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Such a beautiful live story, I absolutely adore Jamie and Claire and their love for eachother! Gabaldon is not self published, so her work can easily be found anywhere, unlike Tucker who is self published.
