When it comes to packing a tote bag or small purse, I stuff it with so much stuff because you never know the situation you are going to be in when you may need anything so I’m definitely quite the hoarder for packing random stuff. But, it’s always essential to carry the basics for everyday when you’re going out to run errands, lunch or dinner with friends, or even a shopping day. Today, I will break down a lot of the essentials you should carry in a bag no matter what you’re doing!
I don’t carry huge tote bags because I’m a much bigger fan of small crossbody bags since they’re so comfortable and don’t hurt your shoulders. But, my dream tote bag would definitely be from a luxury brand, there’s just so many to choose from such as Rive Gauche from Saint Laurent, Dior Book Tote, Goyard, Louis Vuitton and more.

Chap stick / Lip gloss
Always have a lip gloss, or any kind of chap stick handy and nearby because I know I am someone who needs to always have moisturized lips no matter what and it will bother me for the rest of the day if I don’t have it. You also don’t need to have an expensive lip product which is the best part because you can go to any drug store and find one for inexpensive and it can still do the job. I just made a blog post last week on my current favorite lip product which is the Laneige Lip Sleep Mask and you can read about it right here.
Hand Lotion / Sanitizer / Wipes
Especially now with the pandemic, having hand sanitizer is now more important than ever but I’ve always been a clean and sanitation obsessed person even before the pandemic so if I’m at the mall and I know I’m running out of small hand sanitizers, I’ll head to bath and body works to just grab their sale on those because you can always throw one into all your purses and tote bags if you happen to switch them out a lot. Then, you won’t have to worry if you’re carrying one or not. I also love having wipes as of recently because hand sanitizers that don’t have enough alcohol in them don’t do the job sometimes so wipes are another great alternative. And, if you have hands that get dry very quickly or maybe you forgot to put some on in the morning when you were in a rush, having hand and body lotion is perfect for the on the go and you can find great travel size versions.
Wallet
This is always a given with anything you do, you are going to need your wallet. I love having a small wallet compared to a huge one because I can just quickly stuff my change or receipts in there and not worry. It also makes for more space in your bag because you don’t have a really long wallet taking up space. I currently am using a small Kate Spade one which I got for Christmas and I have not switched to another wallet since then so if you’re on the hunt for a new one, definitely check those out. You can also carry a coin pouch if you don’t want to mix your bills with coins and it can be so much easier to find change as well instead of having all your coins with bills mixed in one wallet.
Water Bottle
You can find a bunch of fun and cute aesthetic water bottles on Amazon, Target, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and more! I want to get some new ones for school because I am obsessed with always finding new cups, mugs, or water bottles to use because you never have enough and I feel like there’s always cute new colors coming out. Hydro flasks have also gotten really gotten popular within the last couple of years and people have come up with fun and creative ways to decorate them which I prefer just a minimal look with one color but for a more affordable version, you can check out hydra peak which has a ton of cute colors.
Sunglasses
I just recently started incorporating sunglasses into my everyday outfits and attire but I have them hidden away in my desk so that’s why I always forget to wear them, and I definitely need to wear them more. But I am obsessed with sunnies and especially the chunky unbothered look has been my go-to for any outfit I am wearing. Don’t forget to pack a pair of these in your purse and throw them in even if you think you won’t need them because you may end up wanting one last accessory to put your outfit together.
Hair Accessories
Scrunchies, and hair clips are always a given no matter where you’re going. With the curly hair that I have, I always carry an extra scrunchie no matter what because my hair tie might snap so having an extra is so crucial. Hair clips have also recently gotten so trendy on Pinterest, Instagram, and TIktok so of course I had to get a couple colors to match some of my outfits and they’re definitely the perfect accessory as well for any season and to spice up your hair style.
Perfume
Smelling good is so essential and reapplying also because after a couple hours depending on the type of perfume you use, it can end up wearing out. Buying travel sized tubes is so great too because you will not only save money, but you can take it everywhere with you and not worry about whether it will not last while you’re out and about. Sephora has a lot of great affordable options as well that are so easy for you to just toss into your bag before you leave the house, or even leave in your bag in case of an emergency. I have so many moments where sometimes I forget to put on perfume or chapstick because I’m such in a rush, so having these stocked in my bag is perfect for that.
Snacks
How could we forget the most important essential? Snacks! Whether I’m heading to the mall, or I know I’m going out of town for a while, I always throw in a granola bar or another small snack that I can eat along the way for my trip if I don’t feel like buying lunch and just want something quick to munch on. I absolutely love snacks and food so of course having one of these to put into my bag before I head out is so good. During the summer it may be a little more difficult just with the humidity so be aware of what you carry so it doesn’t melt!
